These stories are narrative recaps of Dungeons & Dragons games from a group that has been meeting since the early 2010s. The Substack is named for the first campaign with written recaps: Syzygy Era, set in a homebrew world based on the Fourth Edition lore. We’ve since moved on to a campaign set in Eberron: One Thousand Points of Light.
Content Warnings
Since these recaps are the result of real game sessions played with real people, their tone generally hovers around a PG-13 rating. The story occasionally touches on darker subjects, often by implication rather than explicit depiction. A simple list of some content you may expect to see includes:
Physical violence — death, dismemberment, gore
Political violence — war, genocide, empire, fascism
Body horror — mutation, mutilation, involuntary surgeries
Mind control — brainwashing, manipulation, memory alteration
Sexual content — suggestive remarks, sexual relationships, past sexual trauma
Bigotry — fantasy racism, misogyny, and transphobia from some characters
Mental health — self-destructive behaviors, self-loathing, suicidal ideation, and scenarios resembling suicide or assisted death
Familial trauma — alienation and abuse
As a final note: the characters in these campaigns all have their own flawed worldviews, including the protagonists. Please do not assume the writers and players endorse all of the protagonists’ ideas, or that they’re always meant to be the good guys!
